Admissions
St. Kieran School admits students of any race, religion, color, sex, national and ethnic origin to all of the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. St. Kieran School shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, national or ethnic origin in the administration of its educational & employment policies, loan programs, and athletic or other school-administered programs.
For the admission of all kindergarten, first grade, or transfer students, parents shall present:
- An official copy of the child’s birth certificate;
- The child’s baptismal certificate (if applicable);
- A record of compliance with all local and state of Illinois health requirements;
- The child’s social security number.
Non-Catholic students may be admitted provided these students will not displace qualified Catholic students, and that both students and parents clearly understand that participation in Catholic religious instruction and school activities related to the Catholic identity of the school is required. Non-Catholic students will be required to pay non-parishioner tuition.
For the admission of transfer students, parents shall present the proper or appropriate notification from the school previously attended. Upon written request from St. Kieran School, all records from the previous school, including health records, must be received and reviewed by the principal. The student is admitted for a 10-week probation period. The principal may request a conference with the parents prior to the acceptance of any transfer student. The final decision relative to the admission, acceptance and placement of a transfer student is the responsibility of the principal.
Catholic families new to the school must provide a letter from the pastor of their previous parish attesting to the regularity of their participation in the worship life and financial support (of their previous parish). If this letter cannot be provided, their tuition will be assessed at the non-parishioner rate for the first 6 months and reassessed thereafter.
All students will be admitted conditionally. Students meeting the academic and behavior criteria of the school after one marking period will be fully admitted. Those students failing to meet these criteria will be asked to transfer.
Note: For grades 7 and 8, “transfer student” refers strictly to students who are moving into the district and satisfy all other admission requirements. Students entering grades 7 and 8 who are presently enrolled within the local feeder system are ordinarily not accepted as transfer students. Exceptions to this policy would be considered if the enrolling family agrees to transfer all school-age children to St. Kieran School at the time of transfer. Any exceptions to this policy would be at the principal’s discretion, based on the current size of the 7th and 8th grade classes, and the academic level of the proposed transfer student(s).
It is the responsibility of the principal to place students in the proper classroom. Parental requests for specific teachers will not be accepted.
Kindergarten:
A birth certificate or other acceptable proof of birth must show the pupil will be five years old on or before September 1st of the school year in which the child is enrolling. A certificate of Baptism is required of all Catholic students.
